County projects take shape
Construction continues on the new
Macon County Public Library (right) and Southwestern
Community College campus (center) as this photo shows. Macon
County Library Director (and soon-to-be Fontana Regional
Director), Karen Wallace, says the library is moving along,
and the Friends are continuing to accept donations for the
furnishings, fixtures and equipment. Wallace says Cabin
Creek Timber Frames, the company hired to construct and
install the post and beam lobby of the library, is working
on the timber structure right now and should be ready to
install in April. Hundreds of wooden pegs will be used to
hold the timber frame together. Wallace says that with the
help of the Macon County Retired Teachers Association, the
pegs will be taken to local schools for children to sign.
County Manager, Sam Greenwood, said despite recent patches
of bad weather, both projects are on schedule. the buildings
are located on Siler Road.
