Cabin Creek Timber Frames Entry Porch,
Franklin, NC This hand crafted
entryway porch is well traveled and tightly fitted. It was
originally a demonstration frame for timber frame shows
until we decided to use it for our new office. It is made of
cypress, hemlock, and white pine. The different bent designs
offer information and choices on bent and truss decisions
for our customers. One bent is an arch with a short
kingpost, and the outside bent is a hammer beam with an
included kingpost.

Timber Frame Cooking Porch of Douglas
fir, Atlanta, GA Atlanta is the site
of this handcrafted cooking porch. It is constructed of
large Douglas fir timbers making up two single hammer beam
bents with a kingpost. The new construction had to comply
with the Historic Preservation Commission guidelines and
those set by Frederic Law Olmstead 100 years ago.

Timber Frame Entry Porch, Deer Chase,
Franklin, NC This small entryway of
handcrafted eastern white pine was designed to fit the space
between the great room and the bedroom wing of Deer Chase.
It is a simple design using bents with curved collar ties.

Timber Frame Cooking Porch, Nashville,
TN This is an unusual example of a
handcrafted timber frame cooking porch. It is octagonal, I
expect influenced by the architectural ideas of Thomas
Jefferson. Of white oak, it sits on eight 14 foot posts. Oak
tongue and groove covers the converging rafters.

Timber Frame Port-cochere, Macon County
Public Library, Franklin, NC A
handcrafted Porte cochere (from the French “coach gate”)
provides a covered drive-through and entryway for the Macon
County, NC, Public Library. The frame is of massive Douglas
fir timbers, two of which measure 10”x20”x30’,
and weighed 2000 pounds each. Raising this section required
two cranes and a telescoping forklift.

Entry ways, Arden, NC Two large
commercial buildings required porches and entryways for a
series of shops. The timbers are cypress and provided
sidewalk weather protection for more than 400 feet plus 6
timber frame entryways.

Balsam, NC What a pleasant back porch
this is! Handcrafted of cypress, it offers seasonal views of
forest and far reaching Smoky Mountain vistas. Note the
arched long timber over the door. This site was difficult to
build on, and required shuttling timbers and material up
steep roads with all terrain forklifts.

Looking out over Lake Chatuge in the
north Georgia mountains is this beautiful timber frame home
with a hammer beam bent set atop stone columns. Note the use
of indigenous stone and timber to create a stunning
combination.

Mountain, TN Atop Lookout Mountain,
TN, is this beautiful custom handcrafted timber frame home
with the timbered queen post bent porch the only indication
of what may lie inside. This is a handcrafted 2 bent porch,
roughly 16’x8’ of Eastern White Pine.
