The latest, greatest
thing in home design seems to be an outdoor kitchen,
cooking porch or summer kitchen. The Hearth, Patio &
Barbeque Association compiled a survey in 2005 which
showed “Americans spent nearly $150 billion on home
remodeling and one-third of that went towards outdoor
living areas. Outdoor kitchens have become one of the
hottest trends in the past five to ten years. |

There are very few people
that do not love the taste of a good hamburger or hot
dog or steak cooked outside on a grill. Whether we
associate it with memories of our childhood or just
because it tastes so doggone good…….few people
would turn down an invitation to a cook out or a
bar-be-q. Some people like my husband have turned the
search for the perfect spice rub for his baby back ribs
into a search like no other . >^..^< |

Outdoor kitchens can
and do offer advantages over in the kitchen in the house
cooking.
* Ever see a man who wouldn’t think
of going in his wife’s kitchen much less plan and
cook a meal….suddenly become a great chef over a
gas grill or open fire pit? Primal? May be.
* Other
family members and even guests are easily involved or
included in food preparation and cooking when it takes
place out of doors. |

* Foods that you may love
to eat but avoid cooking due to the long lingering odors
that they leave behind are often better prepared, cooked
and eaten out of doors. |

OUT DOOR KITCHENS add to the
real estate value of your home.. Consider the cost of
your outdoor kitchen as an investment. |

Your new outdoor kitchen
should blend with the design and surroundings of your
house and add to the aesthetic appeal of the overall
plan.
PLAN, PLAN, PLAN. Be
realistic!!!
- Know what your budget is
going to be ahead of time.
- What type of cooking WILL
you do & how often WILL you cook outdoors?
- How many people are you
planning on accommodating? Will you be having small
family gatherings or will you be hosting large
parties and gatherings.
- Is entertaining is your
thing.
- Do you want just a gas
grill and a picnic table??? OR does you plan
included furniture and a special temperature
controlled cooler for your wine?
- What appliances are you
planning to use in your outdoor kitchen, a simple
grill and perhaps a cooler for beverages or will you
be incorporating a fireplace, sinks, stainless steel
cabinets ………….
- What is the weather like
where you will be building your outdoor kitchen? Do
you live in Minnesota or south Florida?
